3-Day Darkness Retreat | Timber Cabin

  • Norberg
  • 3 days
  • English, Swedish

A gentle yet immersive journey into complete darkness.

Three days and nights, approximately 60 hours in complete darkness, create the conditions for profound rest, reflection, and restoration.

This retreat allows the body and mind to settle into stillness without the pressure of external stimuli. As the days pass, natural rhythms begin to unfold in the absence of light and time cues, creating the conditions for profound introspection and inner quiet.

Our 3-Day Darkness Retreat offers a balanced experience of complete darkness, long enough to settle deeply into stillness while remaining accessible for both newcomers and experienced retreaters.

All retreats are held in private, purpose-built darkness cabins, allowing for complete privacy and uninterrupted stillness throughout your stay.

Please note: Darkness retreats can be powerful experience. If you are unsure whether a darkness retreat is right for you, we encourage you to contact us before booking.

Practical information

Retreat Schedule
Our 3-Day Darkness Retreats begin either on Mondays or Thursdays.

  • Monday retreats run from Monday afternoon to Thursday morning.

  • Thursday retreats run from Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning.

Guests arrive between 16:00–18:00 on the first day and depart on the morning of the fourth day. Optional integration stays are available for guests who wish to extend their experience.

Arrival Day (Preparation & Orientation)
Arrival window: 16:00–18:00
You’ll be welcomed, shown around the retreat area, and receive a brief orientation before entering darkness. After settling into your darkness cabin, a light dinner will be quietly delivered before you begin your retreat. Guests usually enter darkness between 18:00–20:00, in harmony with the evening.

Full Darkness Days
You remain in complete darkness throughout your stay. Meals are quietly delivered through a food hatch, allowing you to maintain full sensory rest, reflection, and stillness without external interruptions.

Exit Day (Morning Light Reintroduction)
On your final morning, you exit darkness around 07:00–09:00. A light breakfast follows as you gently reintroduce light and sensory input. If you have not booked an integration night, you are welcome to stay and relax in the common retreat area until 14:00, allowing space for grounding, reflection, and a gradual transition before departure.

For guests who wish, an integration conversation is available after exiting darkness to support reflection and the transition back to everyday life.

Optional Add-On: Integration Night
We strongly recommend adding an integration night following your darkness retreat.

After three days in complete darkness, the return to light, time, technology, and daily responsibilities can feel surprisingly stimulating. An additional night allows your nervous system time to adjust gradually and provides space for reflection before returning home.

  • Thursday-Sunday retreats may be extended with an additional night in the darkness cabin, now illuminated with soft, dim lighting.

  • Monday-Thursday retreats may be extended with an overnight stay in one of our peaceful guest rooms.

Many guests consider the integration night one of the most valuable parts of their retreat experience.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothing for your stay

  • Personal toiletries and hygiene items

  • Indoor slippers (optional)

  • Any prescribed medications

  • To support the retreat experience, electronic devices are not permitted in the darkness cabin. You are welcome to leave them in your vehicle or hand them in for safekeeping upon arrival.

  • You may also bring personal items that support your comfort and practice, such as a journal, reading materials for before and after the retreat, or other non-electronic essentials.

Bed linens, towels, and yoga and meditation equipment are provided in your cabin.
